Planning Your Week With Astrology
“Planning Your Week With Astrology”
By: Alexandra Blaauw
You ever wonder why the days of the week are named what they are? Why do they feel the same way they do for so many of us? It’s because of the planets that govern each day! Our ancestors actually created this amazing organizational system where they would plan out which activities and endeavours were best to focus on each day based on that day’s ruling planet and it’s energies and guidance it wants us to focus on.
This might seem difficult for some of us to incorporate because our culture today is so influenced by capitalism and how it structures our week, but the more we become in sync and aligned with nature and it’s universal laws - the better we will live in harmony and divine alignment!
This organizational system was created before the most outer planets were discovered and implemented into our modern astrology system today. So it focuses on 7 planetary bodies and excludes Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. This is also why in ancient astrology some of the zodiac signs had different planetary rulers compared to the modern ones they have today. Examples: Scorpio was ruled by mars instead of Pluto, Pisces ruled by Jupiter instead of Neptune, Aquarius and Capricorn were ruled both by Saturn.

Sunday
Sunday is Ruled by (you guessed it) the Sun! Which is also the ruler of the sign Leo.
In Roman mythology the sun god was Sol, Greek it was Helios, Egyptian it was Rah the sun god.
Sunday is a bright day in spirit for all, on this day we need to focus on what brightens the light within our souls. Whether that’s renewing our faith (Sunday is a common day of worship), the love in our lives, our creative expressions, or the passions that bring us joy. Or sometimes it’s just about giving our souls the rest and nourishment it needs to maintain it’s light.
Just as the sun radiates, we should surround ourselves with loved ones on this day and express ourselves to radiate our own soul’s light. Maybe that’s why most families love to do Sunday dinner gatherings!
In some cultures, this is traditionally regarded as the first rather than the last day of the week. Sundays are great for channelling success and wealth and other personal achievements so activities like planning and starting new endeavours for the new week are beneficial. Activities like calendar planning, making a vision board, doing a positive guided meditation, repeating affirmations, etc would be excellent ideas!
Personally for me, on most Sunday’s I like to rest as I’m usually exhausted by then. Sometimes I’ll enjoy cleaning and refreshing my home environment because I feel most efficient when my surroundings are beautiful, comfortable, and clean. Some self care practices too are great to catch up in case I wasn’t maintaining that care throughout the week. Also doing a creative activity that I enjoy and have been putting off. Spending more time in nature if possible and taking long walks as well. These are some examples of ways I show myself that I’m caring for myself and nourishing my soul.
So what are some practical tools to maximize the potential of the Sun’s energy?
You can also wear or carry crystals and colours associated with the day’s planetary ruler as well! For amplifying the Sun’s energy and guidance, we focus on colours that resemble the Sun: such as bright yellow, orange or light red shades.
For crystals, I personally recommend:
- Citrine: Citrine energises every level of life. It cleanses the chakras and opens the intuition. Citrine attracts wealth, prosperity and success. It imparts joy, wonder, delight and enthusiasm. Raises self-esteem and self-confidence.
- Sunstone: Sunstone is linked to luck and good fortune. It clears and energises all the chakras. Heightens intuition and allows the authentic soul self to shine through you. Dissipates fearfulness, alleviates stress and increases vitality. Encourages independence and originality.
- Pyrite: Pyrite is a powerful protection stone which shields and protects against all forms of negative vibrations and/or energy, working on the physical, etheric, and emotional levels.Pyrite inspires the universal energies to activate the nourishing energies of the body. It encourages the ideal of health, intellect, and emotional well-being.

Monday
Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to drag yourself out to work on a Monday? Or why there are so many songs about the Monday blues, or Mondays and the rain?
Well I’m sure you guessed by now which planetary body rules Monday, it’s the Moon!
In Greek mythology the moon goddess was Selene, in Roman mythology it was Luna, in Egyptian mythology there were a few moon deities but one of the most commonly known was Khonsu.
The sensitive, feminine Moon calls us to be with our inner lives, our feelings and emotions. The Moon also is the ruler of the zodiac sign Cancer. Monday’s are the best days to tune in deep to our intuition, listen to your soul, acknowledge anything that’s being suppressed, and to ask yourself what needs release.
So no wonder why Monday’s can be such a challenge sometimes!
The Moon is also instinctive and intuitive, as our sensitivities are heightened under her silvery beams (especially on full moons). You could try tuning into your intuition today by allocating time for meditation, yoga journaling, talking to someone about your feelings (maybe a good day for therapy!), intuitive tarot card pulling, creating art, etc. This is the time to truly connect to your intuition and soul to see what messages are waiting for you!
Personally for me each Monday is a little different as it also depends on what zodiac sign the Moon is currently transiting through. This past Monday I’m not sure what kind of shift was happening and the influence of all the gloomy rain too,but I was just feeling especially sensitive, reclusive, and like a lot of unprocessed emotions were attempting to surface. I spent a lot of time just paying attention to what I was feeling to understand what they need in order to release. Some of these feelings needed to be discussed and held in safe trusted space, some of these feelings were asking for forgiveness, some needed to be transmuted into higher vibrations, some had negative destructive narratives attached I needed to rewrite, etc.
So what are some practical tools to maximize the potential of the Moon’s energy?
You can also carry or wear colours or crystals associated with the Moon to amplify it’s energies. Mondays call for wearing silver, white or grey.
As for crystals, I personally recommend :
- Moonstone: A stone for “new beginnings”, Moonstone is a stone of inner growth and strength. It soothes emotional instability and stress, and stabilises the emotions, providing calmness. Moonstone enhances intuition, promotes inspiration, success and good fortune in love and business matters.
- Labradorite: the stone of transformation. Labradorite teaches us how to bring life-giving energy to all areas of our souls – from the body to the mind and those deep hard to reach corners which keep us all in balance. It’s a stone that shows the way to self-soothing, artistic ambition, cosmic energy, and enhancing our own mental clarity.
- Selenite: ‘selene’ is moon in Greek. Selenite is a calming stone that instils deep peace and is excellent for meditation or spiritual work. It assists judgement and insight. It clears confusion and aids in seeing the deeper picture

Tuesday
Tuesday is ruled by Mars! Mars is the ruling planet of the zodiac sign Aries, and also co ruler of the sign Scorpio.
In Roman mythology Mars was the god of war, in Greek mythology this god was known as Ares. Set, the warrior king and god of chaos.
Mars is the planet of the expression of physical energy; it influences our sex drive, how we are motivated, the passion we feel, how we deal with confrontation and aggression, how we deal with competition...Signifies ambition, desire, courage and strength. Mars is warrior energy!
Represents unleashed energy and human will. Mars is the energy principle in the horoscope. Its position indicates the channels into which energy will most easily be directed. It is the planet through which the activities of the Sun and the desires of the Moon express themselves in action.
So for instance, I have my mars sign in cancer. This can usually be a placement very prone to passive aggressiveness and not dealing with aggression and confrontation directly because there’s a lot of empathy, sensitivity, and emotions involved to consider. A Mars in cancer placement can be most fierce, ferocious, motivated and protective when it comes to defending or nurturing who and what they love or any thing else that makes them strongly emotionally driven. It can also be difficult for them to feel motivated if they’ve been neglecting their emotional health.
So Mars can affect us all differently depending on what sign it’s currently transiting through, and which sign it is in our natal chart.
Generally though this is the day to GET UP AND GET THINGS DONE! Especially the day after Moon day where we may not have been as motivated. Use the boost of mars’ energy to confront the people or situations that you’ve been avoiding. But try to avoid conflict and arguments 😅
This can also be a great day to exert physical energy into a healthy outlet like exercise..or sex lol whatever works for you! It’s all life force and creative energy.
So what are some practical tools to maximize the potential of Mars’ energy?
You can also carry or wear colours or crystals associated with Mars to amplify it’s energies. Tuesdays call for wearing shades of red or orange.
As for crystals, I personally recommend :
- Red jasper: Red Jasper is said to increase emotional stamina, self confidence, self-trust, emotional protection, courage, balance, calm and relaxation. Red Jasper can also be used for increasing memory of dreams and also increasing sexual vibrancy.
- Bloodstone: Bloodstone is an excellent blood cleanser and a powerful healing stone. It heightens intuition and increases creativity. It is grounding and protecting. Bloodstone draws off negative environmental energy, helping to overcome influences such as geopathic or electromagnetic stress. . It can strengthen the immune system, help invigorate the blood, and energize one's life.
- Carnelian: Known as an artist's stone, the Carnelian crystal is a warm, vibrant stone that boosts confidence and the power of true expression. But the Carnelian crystal properties go far beyond artistic expression. In fact, this stone empowers your self-confidence in all aspects of your life – from relationships and professional pursuits to personal projects. When you are searching for a stone to help you tap into your passion and inner creativity, look no further than the Carnelian crystal healing properties.
- Garnet: It revitalises, purifies and balances energy, bringing serenity or passion as appropriate. Inspires love and devotion. Garnet balances the sex drive and alleviates emotional disharmony. It activates and strengthens the survival instinct, bringing courage and hope.

Wednesday
Wednesday is ruled by the planet Mercury! Mercury is actually the name of the Roman messenger God, in Greek mythology this was the god Hermes. In Egyptian mythology it is Thoth.
Mercury is the ruling planet of the zodiac signs Gemini and Virgo. Not so fun fact lol Mercury is also the planet that goes into retrograde the most frequently throughout the year and you’ve probably heard some examples by now of what that means and what to expect during this transit. I’ll be sure to do another blog post soon on retrogrades!
Mercury is the Planet of intelligence and communication. Associated with speed and agility. Rules over intelligence, perception and reason, memory, speaking and writing. Reflects the way you see, hear, understand, and assimilate information. Day-to-day travel, short trips, and the various means of transportation are under it’s dominion.
Mercury is the sensory antenna of your horoscope. Its position by sign indicates your reactions to sights, sounds, odors, tastes, and touch impressions, Mercury is the messenger through which your physical body and brain (ruled by the Sun) and your inner nature (ruled by the Moon) are kept in contact with the outer world, which will appear to you according to the index of Mercury’s position by sign in the horoscope. Mercury rules your rational mind and can show your communication and learning styles of how you give and receive information.
So Wednesdays are actually the best days for brainstorming ideas, communicating with our inner selves, communication with groups, learning new things, sharing ideas, generally just making your voice heard and being open to giving and receiving all sorts of information!
This could be a great day to hold meetings, for studying, tackling something new you’ve been trying to learn… etc
For me personally I find myself reflecting more on these days since it’s the middle of the week and I like to take a look at how it’s been going so far, and reflect on any ways I can improve where I want it to go for the second half of the week’s journey. So I might end up doing a lot of google calendar updating, talking to my business partner about our progress, thinking about things I need to do at home or in my personal life to make things more efficient like maybe more meal planning, updating my budget, etc..
So what are some practical tools to maximize the potential of Mercury’s energy?
You can also carry or wear colours that are associated with Mercury. For colours, mercury is a little tricky because it’s the closest planet to the sun and can be said to have a variety of colours depending on the sun reflecting light onto it and it also can assume the colours of the planet with which its nearest aspect is. Most popularly though it associates with yellows, blues, and greens, sometimes brown is mentioned. I personally prefer shades of blue associated with the throat chakra for communication and intellect.
As for crystal associated with Mercury I personally recommend:
- Fluorite: It absorbs and neutralises negative energy and stress. An excellent learning aid, Fluorite increases our powers of concentration, self-confidence and helps us in decision-making. It encourages positivity, balances the energies, and improves balance and coordination, both physically and mentally.
- Blue kyanite: Blue Kyanite opens the throat chakra, encouraging communication and self-expression. It cuts through fears and blockages, helping to speak one's truth
- Lapis lazuli: Lapis lazuli brings you objectivity and clarity and encourages creative thought. It helps you to confront truth were you find it and accept what it teaches. Lapis lazuli helps you to be able to express your own opinions and harmonises conflicts. It teaches you the value of active listening. This stone harmonises the physical, emotional. mental and spiritual levels.

Thursday
Thursday is ruled by Jupiter! Jupiter is another Roman god, who is known as Zeus in Greek mythology. In Egyptian mythology Jupiter is ruled by Horus the falcon god, teaching us to expand our horizons and soar to the highest heights. Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius and used to be the primary ruler of Pisces before it’s modern ruler Neptune was discovered.
Jupiter is the planet of optimism, faith, abundance, expansion, generosity, higher learning, philosophy, and wisdom. Rules over knowledge, higher learning, breadth of vision, and honesty. Jupiter’s Influence creates a willingness to truly experience life, to gather new experiences.
Jupiter’s sign position indicates the places where you will look for opportunity, the uses to which you wish to put on it, and the capacity you have to react and profit by it. Also where you may find the best fortune in doing so, where you’ll receive the most abundance (not just materially) but the most fulfillment and personal success.
Your Jupiter sign is a great place to look for insight about your life path callings and where you will feel expansion the most in this lifetime. My Jupiter sign is in Leo and it’s truly fitting for me as I feel the most fulfilled when i am creating and expressing myself.
So this is a day to ultimately think outside of the box! DREAM BIG! Expand your minds horizons with no limits! This might be a particularly great day for making a vision board, solidifying your goals and asking yourself how can I make my dreams into a reality? Seeking higher guidance whether that’s from a mentor here on Earth, or calling forth for higher guidance to connect with your faith or whatsoever your philosophy of life is. Jupiter also influences travel and learning about the world through other cultures, this would be a great day to get up and move around to be around new people, new situations outside of your comfort zone and be open to everything you can learn! Also could be a great day for manifesting, get out a journal and write out your intentions very specifically and make sure you regularly read them or keep visuals of them to be able to constantly envision these intentions to the point they already feel like part of your reality.
So what are some practical tools to maximize the potential of Jupiter’s energy?
You can also wear or carry colours or crystals associated with Jupiter. For colours: yellow, yellowish orange, some shades of brown.
For crystals I personally recommend:
- Azurite: Azurite is a gem when it comes to enhancing creativity and inner wisdom because it cleanses and activates the third eye chakra.
- Amethyst: Amethyst activates spiritual awareness, opens intuition and enhances psychic abilities.

Friday
Friday is ruled by Venus! Another planet named after a Roman God, the Goddess Venus, in Greek mythology known as Aphrodite. In Egyptian mythology, this is Hathor the goddess of beauty and love. Venus is the ruler of the zodiac signs Taurus and Libra.
Venus is the planet of love and pleasure. Rules capacity to express affection and to enjoy beauty. Rules over relationships, art and beauty, adornment and decoration, the social graces, affection, harmony, and friendship. Governs the higher emotions, Venus makes life beautiful. Rules ability to love and to share with others.
Venus is the emotional antenna of your horoscope. Through Venus, impressions come to you from the outer world, to which you react emotionally. The position of Venus by sign at the time of your birth determines your attitude toward these experiences.
So besides the fact that everyone loves Friday’s because it’s usually the last day of the traditional work week that we look forward to, everyone usually thinks as Friday’s as the main day to get together and socialize with our loved ones, enjoy pleasures, and celebrate life! Now we know why. It’s a great day to celebrate life and all the richness and pleasures it has to offer, and spend time with our loved ones.
I don’t have a traditional work schedule so any day for me can be about these energies, but I do personally notice a higher social energy calling that we’re all a part of on this day.
So what are some practical tools to maximize the potential of Venus’ energy?
You can also wear or carry colours or crystals associated with Venus: green and pink which are both associated with the heart chakra as well.
For crystals I personally recommend:
- Rose Quartz: Rose Quartz is the stone of universal love. It restores trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love. Rose Quartz purifies and opens the heart at all levels to promote love, self-love, friendship, deep inner healing and feelings of peace.
- Amazonite: Amazonite is said to have a soothing effect on the nervous system. Since the nervous system controls our emotions a great deal, this stone is said to soothe tense and aggravated situations and to enhance love.
- Unakite: brings together the abundant, nurturing energy of green with the soft, caring passion of pink in one of Nature's most healing crystals of the heart and mind. It resonates with the frequency of love, compassion and kindness, and is a stone dedicated to balancing the emotional body.

Saturday
Saturday is ruled by Saturn! In Roman mythology this was the god saturn, in Greek mythology this was represented by Chronos. One Egyptian deity who represents Saturn as there are many, is Sobek the Crocodile headed god who is actually an aspect of Set. This god teaches us the importance of understanding the workings and structure of the world, makes us face our fears to overcome them and shows us where we are resisting change/the unknown.
Planet of responsibility, and symbolizes the ethic of hard work. Influences that a person’s character is strengthened through trial and difficulty. Planet of diligence, self-control, and limitation. The major themes here are patience, stability, maturity, and realism. This planet’s Influence can be very stern and restrictive, cold and severe. Saturn is often known as the “Father” or “Authority Figure” of the planetary system. The major theme and lesson here is to delay rewards until they are earned. Bestows the lessons of patience onto us.
Saturn plays a strong influence on our destiny and fate if you believe in them, things we cannot escape, and payment that must be made for what is received. This is why its the planet associated with our karmic lessons. Looking at Saturn in our chart and our aspects is tremendously insightful and sometimes a little intimidating because it will show a lot of insights on past life lessons that we failed to complete and why we are currently and often consistently experiencing certain painful life experiences in this present lifetime. Saturn isn’t always a cruel authoritative figure though, great reward is always promised for the work we put in and earn.
So how to implement this energy into your day? Saturday would be a great day for anything that involves intense discipline, focus, structure, and order. Have you had a messy and chaotic week? This would be a great day to be extremely honest with yourself about where you’re most unorganized and plan out what distractions or inefficient habits keep holding you back from reaching your goals or optimal state of being. It would be a great day as well to hold yourself accountable to your other negative lifestyle habits that aren’t doing you any good. Are you living outside of your means and over spending? Do you have vices or unhealthy habits that you turn to for emotional relief? Are you neglecting any areas of your life? Saturn is meant to be your greatest but most blunt, harsh, and honest teacher- but only because it’s pushing you to be your best and this is part of how the universe sometimes shows us it truly cares.
So what are some practical tools to maximize the potential of Saturn’s energy?
You can also wear or carry colours or crystals associated with Saturn: such as black and dark brown.
As for crystals I personally recommend:
- Black tourmaline: blast positive energy and form a protective shield around a person's aura and living/work space/vehicle. It is a powerful grounding crystal also used for clearing away the energies of grief, sadness and confusion. This crystal is known to shift the entire energy of the space/ person from fear to a higher vibration of confidence and compassion.
- Black obsidian: Obsidian is a stone without boundaries or limitations. As a result, it works extremely fast and with great power. Its truth-enhancing, reflective qualities are merciless in exposing flaws, weaknesses and blockages.
- Black onyx: A powerful protection stone, Black Onyx absorbs and transforms negative energy, and helps to prevent the drain of personal energy. Black Onyx aids the development of emotional and physical strength and stamina, especially when support is needed during times of stress, confusion or grief. Black Onyx fosters wise decision-making.
This is so powerful!!, Helping me a lot on my spiritual journey, to be balanced, accountable, and focus.
