What to expect energetically for the month of January.
As we move towards the end of 2022 it's important to know what to expect in the upcoming month. But first, let's touch on December. As we move forward we are still in the new moon in Capricorn energy (from December 23rd), as well as the beginning of the Winter Solstice (December 21st). We are in the blessings of new beginnings and being asked to look within and know we are aligning with what our hearts true desires are. Add in Jupiter’s influence (planet of good fortune and expansion) and we are in the Divine ebb and flow, if we allow it to be so.
Take time for self reflection and see the bigger picture in all that has transpired this year, remember, things happen for you rather than the unhealed ego mindset of happening to you. We are also still in Eclipse energy which began in October and November and will be with us until the next eclipse season beginning with a total Solar eclipse April 20th, a Lunar eclipse May 5th and again in October. Eclipse’s add to the guidance of releasing the old unhealthy energies in order for the new to come in and allow positive transformation to happen.
We are also still in Mars retrograde (until Jan 13th) and Uranus (until Jan 23rd). Both of these added to the Mercury retrograde beginning on December 29th will also impact our emotional well-being.
Mars retrograde which began at the end of October, happens every two years and is power packed. Mars, planet of war, action and sex, Uranus is considered a free spirited wildcard that can shake up your comfort zone for the better if you work with rather than against it. Use the energy to continue to better understand yourself and the ways in which you internalize things like anger, impulsiveness and sexual energy. Reflect as to where your internalized energy from the past two years will better serve you. Leave unresolved anger, pettiness, judgment, bitterness behind, embrace the conscious action of healing and inner work.
We have been encouraged to release everything that is not aligned with our true selves, our inner Source and let go of all limiting beliefs. awakening us to see deeper into our ability to transform and expand. We have globally gone through a Divine purification and transformation, and this evolutionary journey has propelled us into the darkness in order to align with our intrinsic light. I know many set a new year's resolution, but setting intentions are a daily process and when we wait for a “right day/time” to set a “resolution” aka intention we tend to set ourselves up for failure. Whatever it is you would like to set an intention in, now is the time. Now is always the best time to resolve your resistance towards whatever it is you wish to accomplish.
We will be leaving 2022 in the added energy of Mercury retrograde beginning December 29th in the sign of Capricorn. There is much speculation and annoyance with Mercury retrograde but it is in benefit of leading us to profound clarity in our lives. Yes, Mercury retrograde can cause issues with communication, technology, travel and may feel frustrating, but when we allow lower vibrations to take hold like fear, frustration etc., we disempower ourselves.
Retrogrades are about inner reflection, self reflection, expansion, releasing outdated/unhealthy patterns and are to help us clear and realign, every retrograde has a purpose and meaning, which when we learn to understand that it is in support of our growth, we then indeed, grow. Be flexible through these transits and embrace the benefits of what they are here to show us. Many feel triggered simply by the mention of a retrograde in anticipation of a proverbial shit show at hand. But we must remember that everything that triggers us is another piece to our puzzle for our deepest healing and expansion.
Now, what are we looking forward to for January 2023. We’ll begin with the Full Wolf Moon on January 6th, in Cancer. This Full Moon is filled with optimism and asking us to firmly plant our feet in the newness of the calendar new year (astrological new year is March 20th Spring Equinox). Many tend to suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder) aka winter blues due to the lack of sunshine and outdoor activities. The days are shorter, the nights are longer and many feel disconnected, plus the after effect of the Christmas season.
It's extremely important to use your healthy toolbox in order to prepare for the days you feel the blahs. What do you enjoy doing? Have a mental (or journal or schedule), plan for the times you feel the ick sneaking in. Generally I teach my clients about ways to plan and what they can put in their proverbial bunker in support of self empowerment.
Listed below are a few tools:
- Call on your circle of trust (those 1 to 3 people who you truly trust) The ones you know who understand you and who have the ability to help lift your spirits or simply listen without judgment. We must remember we cannot help others by suffering with them. If you are feeling the blues and start talking about all the things you view as “bad/wrong” in your life, your circle will be the ones to point out the “good/positive” in your life. To hold space for you to communicate, release and give you the space to express what you are feeling. The ones who will hold the optimism rather than jump on the misery train with you. Sometimes it's a simple I love you and you're not alone or a swift kick in the ass to let them know they are wallowing. But at the end of the day it's all based on trust and a healthy relationship with your circle, give and take and authenticity. Who is your circle of trust?
- Have a playlist of your favorite uplifting music/movies/shows, a list of your favorite uplifting books, new healthy recipes you want to try, things you've been waiting to try ie: skating, making snow angels, volunteering at a shelter or nursing home, even being neighborly and shoveling someone's driveway. If you are crafty or would like to be, try creating some artwork , whether it's painting, drawing, poetry, journaling, a book of memoirs, what ever you feel drawn to. There are many ways in which we can make positive uplifting choices with an added benefit of possibly helping others if we are so inclined to do so. What are some of your favorite uplifting songs, activities, books, movies?
- Create a video journal while you are in good spirits. Talk to yourself like you would a friend, even record it with a friend. Remind yourself of your strengths, all you have to be grateful for, the things you admire most about yourself, be your own cheerleader, guru and express how proud you are of yourself. There is a drastic unequivocal difference between being cocky/arrogant and confident/self aware, so it is important to understand your feeling and expressing to yourself you are friggin amazing is self love.
- What self love/self care actions do you take for yourself? Remember self love/self care is anything from a shower meditation to going for a massage, to mirror work, to reading a book, using things you may be waiting to use for a special occasion. There are a plethora of ways to incorporate self love/self care in your life and it's important to know what that looks like for you. It can be simple or extravagant, whatever feels good to you.
- Take your vitamins. Vitamin D, Magnesium, Zinc,, vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin C to help your body. Eating a balanced diet is always best and you can add fruits and herbs to your water to help as well. Moderate exercise, walking, stretching, Tai Chi, yoga, breathing exercises, anything that includes movement is an extremely healthy addition to your day. What can you add to your day to help your body?
January 2023 heralds in a year 7 (2+2+3), meaning, new paths being opened, change and a symbol of evolution. 2023 symbolizes self love and compassion for all, a heightened intuition and deeper understanding for ourselves and others. Number 7 is associated with Spiritual awakening, self awareness and heightened development of intuition through the inner wisdom we have gained over the past years.
Now first up is January 6th Wolf Moon, it is named due to Wolves being more active in the month of January due to it being their breeding season. The Wolf Moon is in perfect alignment with the vibe connecting with the energies of being vocal (wolves howling at the moon) and allowing the intention for upcoming new beginnings. The howling of the wolves in communication, deepening your connection with the power of the Full Moon and your throat chakra, speaking your authentic truth. It is a perfect time to expand your vibration, pushing away all that is not serving you, strengthening healthy boundaries as well as healthy bonds.
Wolves are resourceful, adaptable, loyal and due to their association with the January Full Moon, it is a time of seeing hidden dangers that you may not be aware of (fake friends, secret "haters", hidden intentions etc.). The Full Moon shines light on things that need to be shown and this wolf moon these things may be exposed in a more noticeable way. Wolves can be aggressive in protecting their territory so make sure your healthy boundaries are firmly in place. Take time to appreciate how far you have come, where you are, your expansion since last January and honor your blessings, lessons and wisdom. There are many rituals people like to perform under a Full Moon but anything you choose to do is based on intention.
Wolves raise their heads to howl at the moon in a way of communicating not only with the moon but with each other. So take some time to set clear intentions, communicate your truth, let your voice be heard in empowerment, remind those you love that they are loved and allow your expansion to be as full as the moon to allow “out with the old, in with the new” vibrations to happen.
January's Full Wolf Moon is in the water sign of Cancer filled with emotion, balance, letting go of attachments, finding balance in unconditional love and conditional love. Who we are intrinsically, love unconditionally as it comes from our inner Source, but our human love is conditional in many ways. We must remember someone can only love you to the capacity of their understanding the love they have experienced in their lives. This includes how they have been shown love from family, friends, partners and any type relationship they have experienced in their life. I can only love you the way I love myself… expecting another to love you beyond their understanding of love is like asking them to speak a language they've never heard before.
So, yes they can love you, but how you love yourself will set the healthy boundaries necessary to be able to know when something is not healthy. We all love according to how we have learned love, our love languages, boundaries (healthy or unhealthy), past experiences (programmed) and how we not only give but also receive love.
(see blog on “what is love” for more details) Attachments and love are ruled by Cancer and we are led to balance our emotions and clear unhealthy patterns, attachments, toxic comforts/familiarity and a healthy balance between responsibility to ourselves and others. Embrace harmony and balance in your life, learn from the past and use it to empower your expansion and communication style with all.
Howl at the Moon, use your throat chakra and speak your authentic truth through your heart center to make way for creating space for new beginnings. It is a fertile time to nurture the space within to lovingly release everything that is not in harmony with the unfolding.
Basic themes of this Wolf Moon:
Release everything that disempowers you
*Rest and rejuvenate
*Detach from those who you receive your communication as an attack, judgment, or through their unhealed ego (as long as you are communicating through your inner Source/Heart space it comes from a loving vibration)
*Have compassion for others as well as yourself. We all have our own journey and it is not for us to judge each other. Do what's best for your overall highest good and allow others to do what is best for them. We are all on our own journey and at different levels of experience.
*Release fear based mentality, face your darkness and any underlying triggers. Feel, Deal, Heal.
A few helpful tools are:
Herbs: Mugwort, Lemon Balm, Aloe, Sage, Bay leaves, Frankincense, Eucalyptus
Don't forget your affirmations: I am passionate about aligning with my goals; I am cultivating heart-centered connections; I am present in each moment; I am free from everything that does not serve my highest good; I am aligned with my emotional needs and embrace my vulnerability
Mars goes direct January 12th, Mercury goes direct January 18th and Uranus goes direct January 22nd ending their retrogrades. Mars going direct is about moving forward, overcoming perceived blocks and pushing you in the direction of clarity. Mercury direct offers reflection before making hasty decisions, utilizing your past recent challenges as empowerment, as Mercury is considered the planet that rules the mind and clarity. Uranus going direct offers an opportunity to clear out what we have held back, confidence in ourselves through releasing everything that is not authentic and a freedom to be our true selves. Remember, there is a 2 week shadow period afterwards to help us ease back into the flow with the planets going direct which we feel before and after each planet stations direct. We must remember this contributes to our Spiritual awakening and shifting away from the unhealed ego and cultivating a place of inner peace and faith with this alignment, so take time to feel the gratitude of all you have learned during these retrogrades.
Now for our New Moon in Aquarius making an appearance on January 21st, filled with the power of new beginnings. The New Moon is offering us a sense of emotional stability and aligning with the inner strength for new journeys to begin. Forging forward with optimism, confidence and opening your heart to receive the blessings of newness. As this is the 1st New Moon of 2023, it has an extra punch and can be supercharged with getting into a flow with the new calendar year. This Aquarius New Moon may have you feeling more social and wanting to connect more deeply with friends and family. You may also feel the urge to shake things up and develop new hobbies and get working on that bucket list. We will be moving into new emotional cycles to fill ourselves with confidence as we create the next chapter of our lives. Our healthy Aquarius signs are friendly, compassionate, outgoing, visionaries with a rebellious side, so take these traits and use them to your advantage as you step into the New Moon energy.
It's important to remember we feel the Moon's energy 3 days before and 3 days after the celestial event takes place (both of Full and New Moons).
Overall, January will be filled with opportunities in creating wealth in new beginnings in all aspects of your life.
Please remember to set yourself up for success and use your healthy tools to help keep you balanced and aligned. We all have our ups and downs but the more we prepare and have a game plan in order to work with the down days, the more we empower ourselves for our highest good.
